The Dillards
The Old Home Place
The Old Home Place
The Dillards
It's been ten long years since I left my home
In the hollow where I was born
Where the cool fall nights make the woods full bright
And the blossoms are bloomin' on this home
I fell in love with a girl in the town
I swore that she would be true
I went away to Charlottesville
And worked in a sawmill too
What have they done with the old home place?
Why did they tear it down?
And why did I leave the plow in the field
And look for a job in the town?
The girl ran off with somebody else
The carriage took my pick
And now I stand by the old home's door
Before they took it away
I'm against myself and the wind grows cold
As I sit here and hang my head
I've lost my love, I've lost my home
And now I wish that I was dead
What have they done with the old home place?
Why did they tear it down?
And why did I leave the plow in the field
And look for a job in the town?
